Adding Purpose To My Paintings

I generally start my paintings without a clear idea of what they will look like when completed. Then like a set of multiple choice questions, I vary the look by addition or subtraction of different sets of multiple choices.

I continually modify the project until the outcome starts to please me in some way. The nice feature of digital painting and my particular process of using numerous layers, is that changing the order and blending of the layers makes a lot of difference in the outcome. Sometimes one set of layers ends up producing several of my finished paintings.

Creating new paintings adds almost no expense other than my time unless I attempt to print, frame and market them. At this time I choose to share my work via social media daily hoping that some day I will figure out how to make an income from this work without adding uncompensated expenses. I am not at this time into printing & framing, traveling to shows, paying entry fees and travel expenses. My initial attempts at this have resulted in financial lose and exposure to very few people compared to my social media posting.

My wish is not not only share my artwork widely, but provide added value for those who are interested in or open to (non-denominational) spiritual developement. I have recently started including quotes that help introduce some spiritual growth concepts (mostly from Eckhart Tolle so far). I then title each piece based on the key concept of the quote.

For example, here are some of my recent titles:

Instagram is currently to only place where you can see all of these paintings with their included quotes. My account there is names @risingabstracts for those who wish to view some of my work. I occasionally add some of them here, but it is not as easy to automate posting here as on Instagram and there is very little appreciation or views when I post here.

If you are one of the rare viewers who follow me here, here are todays paintings and quotes:

Compulsive Thought

“Identification with your mind, which causes thought to become compulsive. Not to be able to stop thinking is a dreadful affliction, but we don’t realize this because almost everybody is suffering from it, so it is considered normal.”― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

A Field Of Potential

“If you can be absolutely comfortable with not knowing who you are, then what’s left is who you are — the Being behind the human, a field of pure potentiality rather than something that is already defined.”― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

There Is No Death

“Die before you die and find that there is no death.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Not Who You Are

“You discover that a “bored person” is not who you are. Boredom is simply a conditioned energy movement within you. Neither are you an angry, sad, or fearful person. Boredom, anger, sadness, or fear are not “yours,” not personal. They are conditions of the human mind. They come and go.” ― Eckhart Tolle, Stillness Speaks
